If you’re looking for a magical indoor location to escape the winter chill, you have to consider a tropical greenhouse elopement. Transport yourself somewhere far away without ever hopping on a plane by using a greenhouse like the stunning Ott’s Exotic Plants in Pennsylvania.
E&J reached out to me just two weeks before their intimate elopement celebration at the end of February. Having been together for a long time, they both knew a big wedding was never high on their priority list. Ultimately, when they decided it was time to tie the knot, they wanted a carefree, intimate celebration with just a few close family members. And a few weeks later, boom! The day was here!
Elopement First Look, Portraits and Private Vows at Ott’s Exotic Plants
We met up at Ott’s Exotic Plants, where they had a first look and shared their private vows with each other while exploring the vibrant rooms of the greenhouse and nursery. While E&J drove to Ott’s together, E made sure to hide in the back seat to keep her dress a secret until the first look. We absolutely LOVE her wedding cape, which made the entire look feel so flowy and elegant. After finally getting to see each other, we explored all the different rooms and nooks at Ott’s for some portrait time before finding a nice quiet spot in the nursery to exchange private vows. It was SO chilly outside, so this was such a great escape from the Pennsylvania winter.
Intimate Wedding Ceremony and Reception at General Warren
After spending some more time together to enjoy the lush greenery and absolutely amazing main greenhouse, E&J then joined their immediate family at a local restaurant for a ceremony, cocktails and meal together. We even popped outside at sunset for a few golden hour portraits on the property. E&J were so warm and kind, and their love for each other was so apparent…it made capturing the day easy as pie. I’m so glad we were able to share such a lovely day, and explore one of my favorite places together. It was one of those days where everything seamlessly just fell into place.
Choosing a Greenhouse for your Winter Elopement or Wedding
One of the trickier aspects of planning a cold weather wedding, is finding a comfortable place to take portraits. Outdoor options leave you susceptible to poor weather and dead-looking backgrounds (at least in the northeast). Most indoor locations can feel dark and the lighting unnatural. Obviously, greenhouses are the hero of the story here, since you can escape the cold, surround yourself with lush colors and plantlife, AND take advantage of beautiful, diffused bright light. From a photographer’s perspective, this is a dream. If you’re looking for a beautiful place for your elopement close to home, I highly recommend seeking out a tropical greenhouse or nursery!
